BJSC Regatta  6 July 2008 5:30 8:00 followed by a social event.

Not yet worked out the exact details but bring food and something to drink.

BYC bar will be available.    As yet we have not discussed food with them as they normally have not meals on Mondays.

Some sailing / racing / games will occur followed by the social event.

Parents and guests invited for the whole event but expected especially later …...

At present this is a BJSC event which will be held in the middle tented compound at the foot of BYC steps.

Short notice but will be brilliant on the night.

RNLI RACE

BYC with RNLI is putting on a race to put our young sailors on yachts. Normal clothing and buoyancy.

Monday 21 July at about 6pm – so come as usual and you will be allocated a boat.

A great chance at some big boat sailing with crack local racing crews – not to be missed.

RACING

Races will be starting soon – when training has finished – fun stuff mostly but all welcome – we keep going in summer as long as enough young sailors turn up – handicapping will be instigated so you all get a chance to win! May have different starts for adults/more seasoned sailors and nougats.

If you simply want to sail come along anyway but you must stay within the ‘safety cover’ provided by BJSC.

Prize giving.

Scheduled for 6 Sept but must be moved – either one week prior or after – you will be informed.

Format will involve BYC. Compound. Maybe artworks. Definitely waterworks. Food and entertainment.

I’ll tell you the date as soon as agreed. Laura to be involved from BYC.

Put these in your diary – I know people go away in summer but we shall try to continue with skeleton staffing each Monday to encourage our protégés to sail well.

Outboard has been sold for £400. This will pay for new tillers on Wayfarers and most of the repair materials required this spring.

Mar 6th 2008

News – The RYA instructor course has been successfully completed on 2nd March in strong winds. All the 5 days of the training had brisk conditions and a few repairs were needed to keep the boats afloat. Mostly the instructors survived without swimming. In the end Peter Chrystie has become an RYA instructor and the other candidates, Emily and Anna Chrystie, Mark Hobbs, Kevin Wright and Mike Inness will have a little brushing up on the water – a sort of naval finishing school – before graduation. The last assessments will take place ASAP. We will have a strong team for 2008. Thanks especially to Duncan West who held the course and Kurt for assessments.

If you want to learn to sail contact the club and you will go on the waiting list. Maybe there will be time to run an adult course? Who knows.

The yacht Wizywig has just been converted into 6 sailing instructor courses.
The proceeds of the sale, £999, will support our volunteer training.

Dec 30th 2007
Paul Patterson, the famous composer of symphonies etc, and film scores including most of the Hammer Horrors, has bequeathed us his Yacht Wizywig. I have just sold it (hopefully) for £1000 – the proceeds will go directly into club funds to support out training programme. Great news.

Dec 27th 2007
There is a development with Churston Grammar - Ash Macanally, the games master, wants to set up after school classes for about 12 students – we do not have to be involved but volunteers are always welcome. I have (on your behalf) welcomed this as it will be running on Friday, Tuesday or Thursday afternoons, will make more use of our boats, increase club membership and fulfil our ambitions to get more people sailing……win / win I think is the phrase of the day.  Churston Grammar  will be running the sessions themselves but would accept any help from us. Also they would like to have racing for novices only – if you are any good you can’t come – perfect for our second years

Dec 4th 2007
We have bought two more Wayfarers – £500

Dec 4th 2007
Yellow Wayfarer for sail sale circa £300 just in time for the 2008 season – need attention but floats and is still a sturdy little ship.
