BJSC NEWS May

Monday v Tuesday

You will all be aware the club is asking all confident second year and all third year sailors to come on Tuesdays. Those who have taken part in the Tuesday fun racing have had a good time. By splitting the nights up the new members get more instruction and the experienced sailors get more fun – WIN WIN.

Monday nights are designated for training only! Instructors take the novices in Wayfarers and 2nd year students in Picos…..3rd year sailors should come along Tuesdays but if you must come on Mondays it is essential you do not interfere with the training sessions.

TRAINING BERRY POMEROY SCHOOL.

Sue Bower has become head of Berry Pomeroy primary and wants her children to learn to sail. Sue learned to sail at BJSC a long time ago and was also a volunteer for some time. Now, with the help of Peter Marshall, some of her charges will be sail training on Friday nights. They will all join the club as full members but with limited access. Great that more people have a chance to learn – and good for club funds.

Competition  what is this?

Clue is that it is big, black, very expensive, nearly new, and used on a Feva and should be carefully folded and put in it’s sail bag and hung up carefully in the Shed after use.

Winner gets all the coke he can drink. The tosser gets a kick in the pants!

Peter Marshall the invisible man will re-appear soon to BJSC – a welcome return. He has been busy with business and his family but is committed to training and is moving earth (not heaven) to make our lives better. Next week Peter’s digger arrives on site to create more compound space – we can use this space or boat storage and my even get permission to put on a bit of roof making it covered spaces for club activities.

Riddle of the month:-

What is the difference between a dinghy and a seat?

Some of you do not know – but think about it carefully!

Clue:Not knowing could cause you pain J Stephen Linley-Shaw

 MORE TOPPERS

Ian Plumridge has kindly offered us the use of two Toppers. We must look after them and treat with respect.

Respect is the word of the week…

He may want to sell them some time and I have his number if anyone wants to buy!

It would be really great if some of you buy a small boat and come out on Tuesday nights.

Don’t forget when you have your own boat you can use it any time you like but the downside is that there will normally be a fee to store it in the compound – BYC are very supportive and we may be able to come to an agreement if we store Toppers in racks.

FUNDS. We need money – mainly to maintain the boats but also buy another Feva which is our mid term goal. Mike Inness (whome you all know) has done some work for a client, John Hiscox, and between them they have donated £300 to BJSC. A big thanks to them both.

The weather has not been good to sail so far – lets hope for fair winds soon.
