Action.

1

Compound there is no change. Allen Haynes joined the meeting and told us that the compound will probably be preserved or made bigger even though the car park will not now be developed. Water board will want us there as our dinghies are mobile.

No change

2

It was agreed that, funding allowed, we will have our own safety bags to take on the RIBs. Not include boat bits which should be on board.

RIB to be checked prior to training

Stephen Linley-Shaw

3

It was announced that we are officially an RYA Training Centre in our own right. We can issue certificates and run official courses.

We have a flag! What about a flagpole?

4

Wizywig was sold for £999 – thanks to Paul Bradfield for this magnificent donation.

The engine, 8hp long shaft in excellent condition, is still for sale and open to offers.

Broadcast the engine for sale. Steve has a bid of £350 so far.

5

The meeting was in full support of the joint regatta where Paignton will be the sailing ground for dinghies.

Must try to get novice racing included.

Peter Musket – can you liaise with local clubs to include a race for 1st year sailors only?

6

Update on the instructor course – After months of work Peter Chrystie has finally fixed up with Duncan West to run the course. 16-19 Feb 1-2March 2008.

The money is in the bank so providing good weather it should go without a hitch.

Peter C

RIB, keys to the compound, barrier, committee room, the shed, water heating and microwave.

7

Stephen Linley-Shaw updated the committee about a link up with Ashley McNally, Head Sports and Churston Grammar.

He will use the Picos and safety boat Tuesday, Wed and or Friday – not interfere with us. We are not obliged to help but I will try to be available most of the time.

Each student, 12 in total, will join the BJSC as full members.

Buoyancy aids to be provided by the students or the school

Peter Chrystie has organised the programme.

We are to include a yacht race on a Monday night which is in the BYC events programme.

Each training session will end with a race if possible.

Peter to finalise the program for printing – A4 fold in half? Including info.?

Need to ensure compliance by yachties!

9

Log books – We need info from instructors about last years intake and progress – a poor year – this 2008 will be characterised by improved bookwork and record keeping.

Peter Marshall is to be head of new trainees and Peter C concentrate on the racing etc.

Instructors input please.

10

Finance – Fred farmer sent us a bank statement.

We have £2300. More to come soon from the sale of the Wizywig. Pending payments £1200 to instructor.

11

Web site now up and running well. Our thanks to Tim Corbett not only for designing and building but also sponsoring the site.

Any news should be posted asap so there is a reason for using the facility.

Items for sale – buoyancy aids? Etc

Committee to advertise the site especially to members and potential recruits.

12

Liaise with Brixham College to get more sailors involved.

Inter school activity.

Stephen Linley-Shaw

Peter Muskett

13

New tiller extensions needed. Agreed we can buy 4.

Centre mains discussed for Wayfarers. Agreed to adopt. Question about direct to centre or via transom horse – probably try on the water. We do not need to keep the boats in “class”

Stephen Linley-Shaw to buy tiller extensions – not agree but I will also get some new blocks.

14

Stephen Linley-Shaw to organise a covered section so boats can be worked on – we now have 6 hulls so one can always be in refurb.

Can anyone help to get a hull into the old cadet room?

Leigh to be asked.

Also Leigh’s mate to do glass fibre.

Any other business    -

Lynn is still awaiting her operation. Our thoughts are with her.

New recruits – Lynn not been able to be as active as normal.

If we are short of recruits we can advertise in the local schools or on notice boards.

Date of next meeting 11 Feb 2008 7pm

Ashley and Peter Musket invited.
