The Junior Sailing Club was formed in 1989 by Steve Linley-Shaw and a group of dedicated volunteer members of Brixham Yacht Club. The sole purpose was to teach young people the joys of sailing.

The club is run purely by volunteers, All have CRB checks and all instructors and safety boat operators are qualified by the Royal Yachting Association. The club is a recognised RYA training centre.
Land based instruction takes place before any “on water” activity.
Beginners commence their first year instruction in the larger club boats with a dedicated instructor.
Intermediate (second year and later) students make use of the club’s single or two handed dinghies. Instructors are present at all times in nearby safety boats.
Courses are 12 weeks usually commencing at the beginning of summer and ending before the school holidays. After the completion of the train-ing courses the club remains operational for further training and racing right through until September.
There is a modest annual subscription for membership. This fee in-cludes a minimum of 12 training sessions (weather permitting) and the use of club boats free of charge, during club hours. It may also involve inclusion in special events such as Regattas, commodores specials, races etc. There are limited places. Use of own boats is encouraged. Own boats to be insured for racing, and BYC charge a fee for dinghy storage in the compound.
Showers are available in the BYC premises for use after sailing.
