SWS II

A SPECIAL REPORT BY BYC FASHION CORRESPONDENT

RUPERT BAYER

Hello Sweeties and all you roughty, toughty Sonata sailors out there. The start of SWS Fashion Week has come only just in time. When it seemed that SWS II was determined to ignore the dictates of this Springs collections in Milan and Paris ( indeed one leading Sonata skipper masquerading as “l’homme de trois noms” had reportedly shocked fashion aficionados with his brutal comment “Haute couture? It’s a load of Hillaire Bellocs”, Race 8 on Thursday night clearly showed that the more fashion conscious  amongst this prestigious fleet are fast developing style awareness up there with the very best.

None more so than Bluesbreaker, always dedicated followers of fashion (sic The Kinks 1965) who were wearing the new Guerlain range of ocean-inspired mascaras,”true blue”. Not only is this waterproof but is said to give bambi-eyed volume, a point not lost on a posse of Devon and Cornwall Constabulary engaged in crowd control on the quayside.

Word on the streets is that Parisian designer Proenza Schaulen has launched a sensational collection with particular appeal to the gay community. His pink trousers ,tight as riding pants have been taken on board by the outrageous A piano although there is speculation that this effect is due more to over indulgence rather than the new finery. For me the whole effect was spoiled by crewmember Robin (such a dear ,dear boy) who insisted on wearing College boy blue check.

Surprise of the night was the usually conservative Simply Red who threw caution to the winds and sported “Coral Reef” this season’s sensation. First spotted as a shock of flamingo tint adorning lips at Malandrino and Monique Llullier and shimmering as pretty-in-peach cheeks at Carlos Liele the effect is stunning ,blusher, lip-gloss and mascara all in unison. Perhaps this exotica was somewhat lost on S/Red but well done boys and girls.

I’m off to the après sail party at the glittering BYC salon de voile so its goodbye from me, Rupert and Hello sailor.

Footnote.

Another impressive win for the Piano. Well behind them Blues with Red in third place.

First three places after 8 races.

Bluesbreaker 9,A Piano 12 and Simply Red 20. As usual only the first 3 positions are published
